Well, you know it isn't easy
When everything's gone from the life that you knew;
You feel you're all alone in these strange surroundings.
The people around you can't understand what it took from you
To reach where you are, and to come from where you've been--
From wishing on stars to a long day's end,
You bet on yourself: that one day you'd pull through.
Now you're standing on a mountain looking down on the hills
In the growing light, the morning chill.
You climbed through the night, and now you catch a thrill,
And there's hope in your eyes. But you can't stand still--
You gotta keep on moving, 'cause time won't stop
And neither can you. Don't be fooled into thinking that you've reached the top--
There's higher mountains to come,
And you'll cross some more valleys before your journey's done.
And at times you'll have to wonder,
Was it worth the price you paid?--
All that mice and men have laid to waste away.
And, while fondly you remember
Who you were and where you've been,
You know the time has come for you to begin again.
So with no more hesitation, you forge on ahead
While sailors take warning as the sky is red.
You plot your course through the midst of the storm,
'Cause you know where few go lies the richest reward.
Mind your front, not your back,
And keep your wits about you should the sky turn black.
Though bruised and battered and bloodied you'll be,
Your flag, though tattered, still flies--
And now you're free.
So you put the past behind you,
Turn the page, and look ahead.
The old is dead now, so cut that winding thread.
And you'll find your own way onward,
Ever higher! Ever more!
Carry on and on, whatever lies in store.
